Il Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica – LIPU (Lega Italiana Protezione Uccelli) di Roma è il primo sportello cittadino a disposizione degli animali selvatici in difficoltà e di tutti coloro che desiderano dar loro una mano. Situato presso il Bioparco di Roma, nella splendida Villa Borghese, il Centro LIPU fornisce dal 1997, grazie all’Ufficio Diritti Animali del Comune di Roma, un imprescindibile contributo alla tutela della fauna selvatica, curando più di 5.000 animali l’anno e contribuendo alla diffusione di una cultura e di una sensibilità ambientali corrette.
Questa struttura LIPU è così diventata, in pochi anni, un vero e proprio punto di riferimento nazionale per il recupero della fauna selvatica e un servizio sempre più prezioso e necessario per chiunque ami e desideri proteggere la natura.
Tutelare la fauna selvatica ed informare, educare, promuovere una giusta coscienza ambientale: sono questi gli scopi del Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica di Roma come di ogni altra struttura della LIPU.
Il Centro LIPU, vero e proprio ospedale per gli animali, nasce col preciso scopo di fornire una risposta concreta a ciò: chiunque rinvenga un animale selvatico (uccelli, piccoli mammiferi o altri vertebrati) bisognoso di cure, può raccoglierlo e condurlo al Centro, dove il personale veterinario ed infermieristico lo prende in consegna curandolo sotto tutti gli aspetti – pronto soccorso, diagnosi, eventuale operazione, terapia, alimentazione, riabilitazione, liberazione.
COME FUNZIONA IL CENTRO:
Giunti al Centro, gli animali vengono schedati (numero di riferimento, mittente, località di ritrovamento, specie, età/sesso, patologia, dati biometrici) e condotti in infermeria dove hanno inizio le cure specifiche.
Le strutture dell’infermeria, la sala degenza, la modernissima sala chirurgica e le voliere sono i luoghi in cui gli animali, sotto la costante osservazione del personale, vengono curati e trascorrono la loro degenza svolgendo la necessaria attività riabilitativa, in vista del momento in cui, completamente ristabiliti, essi tornano in libertà.
Spesso il lavoro di terapia e riabilitazione può durare molti mesi: esso va in ogni caso svolto secondo criteri molto precisi, evitando il più possibile che l’animale cada in stato di stress ed evitando, soprattutto, che eccessivi contatti con esso possano causare un imprinting sull’uomo.
Solo quando tutti i criteri sono rispettati e tutte le cure del caso hanno dato i frutti sperati, l’animale può considerarsi realmente pronto per la sua reintroduzione in natura.
