Descrizione attività:
Il Centro Recupero Fauna Selvatica di Castiglione del Lago è situato all’interno del perimetro del Parco Regionale del Lago Trasimeno nell’area dell’ex Aeroporto Eleuteri. Il Centro è il punto di riferimento per tutta l’attività di cura e riabilitazione della fauna selvatica proveniente dalla regione Umbria ed anche dai confinanti comuni toscani.

Il Centro è attrezzato con voliere di varia tipologia, di appositi tunnel per la riabilitazione al volo, un ambulatorio per la visita, una sala chirurgica, una sala terapia, una nursery dove vengono accolti ed allevati i numerosi pulli abbandonati che giungono a centinaia soprattutto in primavera ed una zona destinata ed attrezzata per il pubblico.
Il costante incremento di attività è testimoniato dal numero elevato di animali curati ogni anno.
Sono infatti circa 700 quelli ricoverati tra rapaci diurni e notturni, altri uccelli e piccoli mammiferi.
All’azione diretta va aggiunto il grande lavoro di conservazione indiretta svolta dagli esperti volontari del Centro, come ad esempio le indicazioni e le consulenze fornite in materia di soccorso agli animali feriti e le indispensabili nozioni di educazione ambientale. Il Centro è aperto tutto l’anno e, vista la sua localizzazione nel Parco Regionale del Trasimeno, permette di usufruire della pista ciclabile del Lago Trasimeno e dei numerosi e comodi sentieri ben segnalati e, su prenotazione, di visite guidate, soprattutto per classi scolastiche e gruppi, accompagnati da esperti ornitologi, botanici, naturalisti e storici.
Tra le altre attività nate intorno al Centro si segnalano anche gli incontri didattici con le scuole, i campi estivi, le liberazioni pubbliche e le varie ed interessantissime attività di volontariato.
